WORK & LIFE TRANSITION SUPPORT
Transition to Work or Retirement
Support to rebuild direction, routine and connection when work is changing or coming to an end.
Changes in work or heading towards retirement can affect much more than employment status. Returning to work, changing roles, reducing work or moving into retirement can reshape daily routine, confidence, relationships, social connection, identity and plans for the future.
MSSN’s Work & Retirement Transitions program supports people to navigate these changes in a practical and structured way, helping them rebuild confidence, strengthen connection and create a meaningful pathway through the next stage of work or retirement.
Transitions can change more than a job
Changes in work, preparing for retirement or adjusting to life after work can affect daily structure, social networks, confidence, finances, identity and future plans. The right support depends on which of those areas has been disrupted and what the person wants their next stage of work, retirement or everyday life to look like.
Returning to work
Support the person to rebuild routine, social confidence and participation alongside appropriate vocational or workplace services.
Moving towards retirement
Explore how purpose, relationships, activity and community participation can be maintained or rebuilt when work is no longer the centre of the week.
What support can focus on
Support is tailored to the person’s circumstances and the type of transition they are navigating.
Identity and direction
Clarifying what matters now and what the person wants the next stage to contain.
Routine and participation
Building a week that includes meaningful activity, social contact and achievable goals.
Confidence and connection
Strengthening confidence to reconnect with people, community, learning or work-related settings.
Practical next steps
Identifying realistic activities, supports and pathways that can continue beyond MSSN.
The goal is a sustainable next chapter.
The goal is to support the person towards a sustainable next stage that reflects their circumstances, priorities and plans. For some, that may mean returning to paid sustainable work or adjusting how they work. For others, it may involve preparing for retirement, establishing new routines, strengthening social connection or building meaningful participation beyond work.
Greater clarity about next steps
A more sustainable weekly routine
Stronger social and community connection
Increased readiness for work, retirement or another meaningful pathway
For Referrers
This pathway may be suitable when a change in work or retirement is affecting the person’s routine, confidence, social connection or participation in everyday life. MSSN focuses on the social and practical aspects of transition, helping the person rebuild structure, connection and meaningful participation as they move into their next stage.
The program is designed to sit alongside, rather than replace, vocational rehabilitation, clinical care, financial advice or other specialist supports where these are required.
